Three screens of the Odyssey app: scanning a package QR code, the shipment with its signed steps, and a confirmed handover.

The challenge

Air cargo changes hands many times between shipper and destination: forwarder, driver, handling agent, customs. Every handover moves the responsibility, and the paperwork tends to lag behind. For freight like vaccines, you want to know exactly who held the package, and when.

We built Odyssey in November 2020 at the Odyssey hackathon, for KLM Cargo’s challenge — and won.

How it works

  • Sign in with your ID card: swipe it over the phone and enter your PIN.
  • Scan the package: its QR code opens the shipment — type, status, air waybill, pickup and delivery.
  • Hand over with a swipe: the next custodian swipes their ID card, the app shows who they are and who vouches for them, and both confirm.
  • A signed trail: every step, from ready for transport to delivered, is signed with a decentralized identity and shows up on one shared timeline.

What we built

A clickable Android prototype in Material Design, made in Adobe XD and Proto.io, and a dashboard that shows the custody timeline of every shipment.
